Doctors, Bad Dog

docThat’s a new one, we got up early yesterday morning in order to get to the next town to visit a specialist. At an ungodly hour the phone goes, it's her secretary saying appointment is cancelled, doctor is sick herself. I don’t think that has ever happened to me before. The secretary didn’t say what was wrong. Hope nothing serious. Obviously doctors get sick as much as anyone, but you just don’t think of a doctor being sick somehow. We both have an appointment at 9 a.m. this morning for a diabetic clinic, hope that is not cancelled. Actually, Matt has a streaming cold at the moment. He hasn’t had a cold since I have known him, even when I Takharhave had one, he hasn’t caught it, wonderful immune system, but it seems to have deserted him right now. Funny how we always expect doctors to wear a stethosocope, ours doesn’t, she is a young woman and dresses that way, the highest of heels (dunno how she manages in the clinic all day) and fashionable clothes, no sign of a white coat at all. She is a good doctor and a good business woman too. She has a cosmetic clinic as well as a medical practice and is really excellent at explaining just what is going on with you. She is a real go getter and works a lot of hours.

A friend posted this piBad dogcture of a giant dog on Facebook. I wasn’t sure it was genuine, however, I googled and it turns out that it is set up outside a California art museum just for the duration of the sculptor’s exhibition. The dog is capable of spraying yellow paint. It is called Bad Dog and was created by Richard Jackson who is displaying his art in the museum at the moment.

Orange Chicken (Restaurant Style)

I have been playing with Orange Chickenthis recipe for ages. I think this comes pretty close to the orange chicken that I enjoy at my favourite Chinese restaurant. Served over steamed rice or fried rice makes it a one-dish meal. I sprinkle chopped green onions on mine. Yum.
Ingredients:
Servings: 4

Sauce
  • Chicken

    Directions:

    1. Pour into saucepan water, orange juice, lemon juice, rice vinegar, and soy sauce; and set over medium-high heat. Stir in orange zest, brown sugar, ginger, garlic, red pepper, and chopped onion. Bring to a boil. Remove from heat, and let cool 10 to 15 minutes.
    2. Place chicken pieces into a resealable plastic bag. When contents of saucepan have cooled, pour 1 cup of sauce into bag. Reserve remaining sauce. Seal bag, and refrigerate at least 2 hours.
    3. In another resealable plastic bag, mix the flour, salt, and pepper. Add marinated chicken pieces, and shake to coat.
    4. Heat the oil in a large skillet over medium heat. Place chicken in skillet, and brown on both sides. Remove to paper towels, and cover with aluminum foil.
    5. Wipe out the skillet, and add the sauce. Bring to a boil over medium-high heat. Mix together cornstarch and 2 tablespoons water, and stir into sauce. Reduce heat to medium low; stir in chicken pieces, and simmer, about 5 minutes, stirring occasionally.
    6. Serve over Fried Rice or steamed white Rice.
    7. Enjoy.
    Have a great day

  1. Hmmmm! not sure about the giant dog. Obviously he's entitled to his opinion of the art in the gallery (!!) but the idea of it spraying yellow paint is a bit repulsive somehow .... :-(

Another wondrous recipe .. I can't keep up with them all although I've bookmarked several.

    1. Yeah, but he has his own art on display, so I don't know what he is expressing contempt for. Yes, I must admit I was a bit took aback by the whole thing though.

So you are young and fit, get cooking girl.

  2. That's funny - mum had a procedure cancelled last week because the anaesthetist had a stomach bug... but you just don't think of them getting ill!

I love Bad Dog- what a fun idea :)
    Happy Wednesday

    1. I know Laura, and I don't know why, they are human just like us, LOL.

I like the statue, but as said before, not sure about the yellow paint.

  3. I've had a doctor's appointment cancelled because of a baby delivery before. (Someone else's - not the doctor.)

    1. Don't know what happens here, I think all maternity matters go straight to hospital. One of the doctor's I see had a baby not so long ago, before I started seeing her.

    1. I thought so when I first saw it, but then wasn't so sure when I registered the paint.
